Prioritizing and Preserving Prairies

The Prairie Dances Capstone Event will include a presentation by Stephen Winter, a Certified Wildlife Biologist with The Wildlife Society. Stephen is a board member of The Prairie Enthusiasts, a regional land trust dedicated to ensuring the perpetuation and recovery of prairie, oak savanna, and other associated ecosystems in the Upper Midwest through protection, management, restoration, and education. In this Capstone discussion, you will learn about remnant and reconstructed prairies and the importance of prairies relative to Southeastern Minnesota’s ecology and agricultural economy. You will learn how to plan and establish prairie plantings on your site, and you will learn the importance of plant diversity in your prairie plan.

Prairie Dances Capstone Event, October 30, Chatfield Center for the Arts. The presentation is scheduled from 3 pm to 5 pm; the Prairie Dances Metal Art artist reception in the gallery will follow this discussion.
